Grumpy Dad Review - Missy Higgins - The Second Act Vinyl LP
Album Name: The Second Act
Artist: Missy Higgins
Date: October 2024
Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of Missy Higgins first album - The Sound of White, having just purchased the 20th anniversary edition on white vinyl.
And while the Sound of White is an emotional out pouring of her short life up to that point brilliantly constructed into both upbeat pop and sombre super ballad moments the Second Act to me is a more serious reflection of her adult life lived up to that point. Honest, and introspective this collection of mostly ballads is a slow burn that grows on you the more you listen and could easily be enjoyed in those more melancholy moments when you just need a good cry.
My favourite tracks are Craters, which is the Scar moment of this new album and lead me to wonder and imagine what a whole Album of Missy Higgins pop songs would be like (unbelievable I think), and You Should Run which has Easy Listening power ballad hit written all over it.
I really enjoyed this new album and as said previously it’s worth more than a couple of listens to let it work its magic.
While it’s not The Sound of White it is definitely a Solid Second Act
