Peninsula Records & Books -  Returns & Refunds Policy

Peninsula Records & Books follows Australian Consumer Law (ACL), including the ACCC’s consumer guarantees. This policy applies to all purchases made online through our Shopify store.

1. Change-of-Mind Returns

We accept change-of-mind returns under the following conditions:

  • The item must be brand new, unused, and in its original condition.
  • Products that arrive sealed in plastic must be returned still sealed.
  • Books must be returned in unused, undamaged condition.
  • Requests must be made within 30 days of delivery.
  • Customers are responsible for the return shipping cost.
  • Original shipping fees and any third-party payment fees are non-refundable.

To request a return, email info@peninsularecordsandbooks.com within 30 days of receiving your order.

2. Items Not Eligible for Change-of-Mind Returns

  • Sale or clearance items
  • Gift cards
  • Items marked as “Damaged” or “Seconds”
  • Second-hand vinyl
  • Opened or used items
  • Puzzles and games that have been unsealed

3. Faulty or Incorrect Items (ACCC Consumer Guarantee)

If an item is faulty, incorrect, or develops a playback defect, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund under ACL.

Please contact us within 30 days with your order number, a description of the issue, and photos or videos where helpful.

For verified faulty or incorrect items, we provide a prepaid return label and cover all return costs. Once inspected, you may choose a refund or replacement unless the failure is minor, in which case we may choose the remedy.

Our vinyl and physical media are brand new and sourced directly from Australian and International distributors. Once in a while an item may arrive with a small imperfection caused during transit or manufacturing, such as a seam split, a corner ding, light sleeve creasing, or another minor cosmetic mark. These are rare, affect the sleeve only, and do not affect the vinyl or playback in any way. If you receive an item with any imperfection, please contact us and we will assess each case individually.

4. Vinyl Records: Playability vs Cosmetic Wear

Covered as Faults

  • Severe warping that affects playback
  • Loud popping, non-fill, looping, or pressing defects
  • Incorrect record supplied
  • Incorrect colour variant supplied
  • Mislabeled sides that affect use
  • Packaging damage caused by improper packing by us

Not Considered Faults (Cosmetic Only)

These issues do not affect playability and are not considered faults under ACL:

  • Seam splits
  • Light creasing or slight corner wear
  • Minor sleeve scuffs
  • Slightly off-centre or imperfect labels
  • Colour variation between mock-ups and final pressing
  • Factory spindle marks

If you receive cosmetic wear, you are welcome to send photos for review. While not faults, we may offer a small goodwill credit at our discretion.

Reduce the Risk of Seam Splits

You may request that we open your record before shipping and pack the disc outside the sleeve (inside a protective outer). Leave a note at checkout.

5. Playback Issues on Basic Turntables

Some lower-cost turntables may struggle with new or heavyweight vinyl and can cause skipping, noise, or tracking issues. Because these relate to turntable limitations rather than the record, they are not grounds for return.

When needed, we test records on standard adjustable turntables.

6. Second-Hand & Collectable Vinyl

Second-hand and collectable records are sold as is. These items cannot be returned unless they have a playback-affecting fault that was not disclosed.

7. Books

Books may be returned for change of mind if:

  • They are unused and undamaged.
  • The return is initiated within 30 days.
  • You cover the return postage.

Minor cosmetic marks that do not affect readability are not considered faults.

8. Puzzles & Sealed Games

Puzzles and games must remain sealed to be eligible for a change-of-mind return. Opened puzzles or games may only be returned if faulty.

9. Return Shipping

  • Change-of-mind: customer pays return postage.
  • Faulty or incorrect items: we provide a prepaid return label and cover postage.
  • Original shipping costs are not refundable for change-of-mind returns.

We recommend tracked postage for returns over $75.

10. Loyalty & Store Credit Adjustments

If a refunded item earned loyalty credit, that credit will be removed. If you have already used the credit, its value will be deducted from your refund.

Store credit is not earned on shipping charges or refunded portions of an order.

11. Refund Process & Payment Fees

After your returned item is inspected and approved, refunds are issued to your original payment method. Please allow up to 10 business days for processing.

Change-of-mind refunds exclude:

  • Original shipping costs
  • Non-refundable merchant fees (Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Afterpay, Zip, Shopify platform fees, currency conversion fees)

12. Order Cancellations (Before Fulfilment)

You may cancel your order before it has been packed or shipped. Third-party payment processing fees are not recoverable and will be deducted from your refund total.

13. How to Request a Return

Email info@peninsularecordsandbooks.com with:

  • Your order number
  • The reason for the return
  • Photos or videos if the item is damaged or faulty

We’ll respond within two business days.

14. Our Commitment

We’re a small independent store and we handle every order ourselves. We follow the ACCC consumer guarantees carefully and always aim for fair, honest outcomes. If something isn’t right, we’ll work with you to resolve it quickly.
